French R&R

just been chilling for the last couple days here... nbd.

seriously though the French countryside?
(thumbs up emoticon best one in the book for sure)

after leaving Paris, we visited the castle in Chartres. for all the people who have taken a humanities class, this is the cathedral that has two different steeples. Can I just say that sometimes I think about me being here and it's super fascinating that I get to visit all these places that I was just learning about a couple months ago?

this cathedral literally was rebuilt/renovated at least 6 times. we had a tour guide from this old English man (80+ years) who's dedicated his entire life to studying this single cathedral. It was insane the things he knew. My favorite part of the cathedral was a stained glass window that had the zodiac signs on one side and on the other side, the activities you do during that month (i.e. september had harvesting).

Chartres despite it's terrible name was awfully charming.

Next, we traveled a little further into the French countryside and found ourselves in the Loire Valley. It's this lush, green area of France that the Loire river runs through. There are chateaus all over the place and basically, you feel like you're thrown back a century or something because you can't really believe something that looks like this exists [pictures at the beginning to see what I mean]

The Da Vinci house
(where Leonardo died!)

being sassy in the Loire valley
(one of my favorite pictures this trip)
and finally... Chanonceau

Life's pretty good I'd say.
