-The word "bistro" comes from the russian word for hurry. I guess when the Russians had control of France they would go into restaurants and tell them to hurry ("bustro") and it just stuck.
-There's a hotel in the middle of the city that the cheapest room you can get is for 7000 dollars/night. Unless you win the Tour de France. Then you get 3 nights for free. You also get to fly whatever flag you want in place of the French flag on top. Lance Armstrong always flew the Texas flag. texans are the worst.
-During WWII when the Nazi's were taking over Paris, they cut the cable lines to the Eiffel tower. France may have been taken, but apparently the Eiffel tower always remained liberated.
-Marie Antoinette had over 10,000 pairs of shoes.
-Louis XVI couldn't be bothered to show up to his own wedding.
-Notre Dame was saved by "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" by Victor Hugo.
-Pont Neuf (a really famous bridge by the Notre Dame) was built on wine taxes. When it was finished, the king opened up his wine stock to the citizens of Paris and they got crazy drunk and partied hard.
-One side of the Champs Elysee is for the really high end fashion, and the other side is the more affordable side. H&M had to really fight to get a store there and can only sell their highest end products.
Basically call me a Paris pro.
The last few days have been the time of my life. Seriously, Paris is the best city ever!
Here's what we've done.
sunday morning: church in Versailles
after church, we walked around the city of Versailles
(and were loving the architecture a little too much haha):
We then decided to visit the palace:
and totally take an ultimate mirror picture in the hall of mirrors:
we came back to the hotel sunday, had a meeting with the group, and then did a little exploring where we found the champs elysee and were maybe in heaven.
monday morning, we had a walking tour with the whole group. it was SO cool and fun to learn about the historical facts and fables about the city.
we started in front of St. Michael's fountain:
where we then saw the Notre Dame:
and obviously had to take a hunchback picture...
we then went to lovers bridge, the gardens, the bastille, and the louvre pyramid:
next, we were planning on going to go up on top of the Notre Dame but we ran out of time because Alex's next door neighbor and famous videographer needed some models to do a shoot for him in Paris! The best part?
A toss up between getting paid 100 Euros and people walking by snapping pictures of us actually thinking we were some famous models or something.
And finally... the night ended with another walk down the Champs Elysee. Someone needs to keep us away from that street!
